Community space for Entrepreneurship and Prototyping

In an interdisciplinary team of Communication Designers, Product Designers and Architects we developed an intelligent strategy to turn a Chemical Research Center from 1952 into a Community space for Entrepreneurship and Prototyping.

While the open workspace aims to bring young entrepreneurs of different disciplines together to share their ideas, the architectural concept is based around the same strategy: enhance already existing qualities of the 70 years old building and bring those together with the needs of the new program.

Within a tight budget, building parts where only removed, nothing was added to open up spacial continuity and quality. While stripping down only structural components, everything else that wasn´t in the way was left untouched. In that manner the layers of history of the building as a Chemical Lab, a school and a repair shop for racecars remain readable and gives the new community space a uniek atmosphere.
