Parallel Cases of curator Ralf Pasel is one of the three main exhibitions of this years’ Architectural Biennale in Rotterdam. Next to the NAi and Vrijstaat A’dam, it establishes a link between the ‘best practice’ projects and projects that evolved out of an academic context.
Parallel Cases displays 45 projects from more than 28 universities from 20 countries, rendering a unique cross-section on how the Open City is perceived and discussed all around the world.
Whilst some of the displayed projects refer directly to the Open City as such, others focus on related issues supporting this year’s topics of the biennale: Squat, Refuge, Diaspora, Community or Collective. However manifold and divers the projects, Parallel Cases provides an astonishing collection on what the Open City could be, and how co-existence can be designed in an urban context.
